Shifty sales-people

Shifty sales-people

2004-03-27 by G

I went e-drum shopping with a neigbor for his 9yr old son yesterday.
The first place we went had DTXpress 1 which has been a floor model
for over 2 years. I thought we would get a bit of a deal on it
considering they also have a DTXtreme, DTXpress 3-SD and a 3-SP. (Not
to mention many Rolands and a Pintech as well)
Once we finally got a sales guy to get off the TD-10 and give us a
hand, he said the Xpress is priced at $1200 CAN. Only $200 less than
the new Xpress 3-SD! No pedal, no throne and this guy wouldn't budge.

We ended up going to another store and getting a brand new Roland DM-
3 for the same price ($1200) and this guy is going to throw in a
cheap pedal and throne! I tried my best to keep him in the Yammy
family but failed :(

Mabey the first guy wasn't allowed to give any deals or mabey he just
wanted to get back to his personal jam session but you would think
they'd want the old floor model off of the floor to make some room
for new stuff!

A Yamaha at Roland prices. Now there's a twist.

Up here in Canada e-drums are usually more expensive eh!
I live in Ottawa Ont. where the Xpress 3-SD is selling for $1499.
and the 3-SP is $2299. Not sure what that is in US Dollars?
They have a Roland V-pro w/TD10 and they want $7500!
Unfortunately Drumbalaya can't ship Yamaha or Roland products here :(

No, but we have shipped quite a lot to "friends and family" in the
US who then forward it. We can't control what a customer does with
it after it is delivered to a US address and this has worked well
for some folks.

Who says Yankees aren't good friends!? ;-)

Do you ever gig in the US? Just bring them back with you. I could even
re-ship for your Cousin :) Could work something out for you with Ed's help.

My neigbor bought the kit already but thanks for all the replies and
options for the future :)
It's good to know for my next big purchase!

Actually, I took a trip to Rochester NY once and found a great deal
on a kit at the House of Guitars. My plan was to go back with the
band and a crappy set of drums. I would declare them at the border,
then sell them to the store in exchange for the new ones.(the drums
not the band members) Then, after much partying, we would return
across the border with my new drums(disguised as old ones)and some
duty free!
