Rim switch utilization.

Rim switch utilization.

2004-04-02 by Abdulmalek Hamsho

Hi,

As I understood, 1-8 jacks are all stereo, but not dual zone, and the
benefit of being stereo input is the Rim Switch, which if it's hit along
with the grand pad, will produce different voice. Am I correct?

My question is, any way around to utilize this Rim Switch, so I can connect
two pads into the stereo input jack (not dual zone jack)? i.e if I hit the
Rim switch, the main pad would be triggered automatically.

If the answer is no, any way to use 2 pads with each of 2,6,7 jacks?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome. If you hit the rim, you'll get the sound programmed to it
via the switch. You don't have to hit the head at the same time for
the piezo to get the message. But even though rim and head seem to
work independently, they don't; the rim needs to be on the same pad
as the piezo in order for both elements to activate on the same
impulse. I won't go into detail about splitting stereo pads into two
monos; it can't be done. We've discussed the matter extensively on
numerous occasions--the last time being a few months ago. The only
way to get two pads out of one stereo situation is to split the input
with a stereo Y cable and either duplicate both sounds on two stereo
pads or one stereo and one mono (head only).
