Set add-on questions

Hello DTX owners,

For those of you who replaced your snare with something else (A TP80s seems
to be the popular choice among rubber pads) and added your leftover TP60 as
a fourth tom, how did you mount it? Seems like I've already got my floor
tom at the end of the extension rod on the right side of the kit, and my
inclination is to have the fourth tom out farther, but even a tom mount for
the RS80 rack looks designed to operate at a right angle to any piece of
tubing, impractical for 'extending' the rack.

Along with that, has anyone done anything creative to 'brace' the RS60 rack
any better? Mine is bouncy and sags in spots with nothing but stock
hardware...

Dan-
To make the rack more stable, lower the front cross bar and put the
side bars above the cross bar. That should help lots. Also,
musiciansfriend.com has Pinteck leg braces for $19+/- (or maybe $12 -
I don't remember). They fit the Yammy rack. I added two to go with
the two already on it and the result is much more stable.

Dan,

I used the brain stem set-up for the extra pad. My brain sits on a
bar stool. I was hoping for more feedback on my poll so i could get
an idea of what 3rd party ware would be useful for the DTX rack
system. No luck so far.

Re: [DTXpress] Set add-on questions

My 4th pad is on the right bar, next to the 3rd, like you see the electronic
kits set up that have 4 toms. I purchased a 3rd holder
(rockbottommusic.com) like the ones used for toms 1 & 2. That let me set
Tom 3 up a bit higher.

Toms 1 & 2 I have to the left of their supports so that Tom1 is up & left
from the snare, Tom 2 is up & right. 1&2 are about the same hieght, then 3
is at the height & position between 2 & 4. I hope you're getting this <g>.
I pushed out the right bar a bit to get the Tom 4 away from me. Overal, I
like the tom arrangement very well. The snare & highhat I continue to mess
with to get it jsut right.

There have been numerous posts saying that the pintech cross-braces work
well, at a good price. They are on my list, but first I want a Rhythm Tech
Gig tray...

The Pintech clamps & x-braces work fine. They are cheaper than Yamaha's and available from musiansfriend.com... (details in some of my previous posts)

Hi Dan,
I also used the module "tube" as my 4th tom mount and purchased a Roland
mounting bracket for my new "snare". It fits well but was a bit expensive.
I'v'e now got 3 toms across the front (they're close to each other but it
works well) and the module (with just the supplied bracket, no tube) and
floor tom on the right bar.

Thanks to others for the tip on the Pintech x-bar supports. I'm gonna get me
some of those.

Rick

Re: [DTXpress] Re: Set add-on questions

That is a good idea for the extra pad, but instead of mounting the dtx brain
on a bar stool, what i did is i used a single braced pearl cymbal stand,
took out the lower tubes, so i now have only the bottom part of the stand.
Then i inserted a gibralter tom mount, the kind with the l-arm and ball
socket. The module mounts to the l-arm, and works great. I can get it right
were i like it now.
