Snare Sound

Snare Sound

2004-05-11 by supernovanexus

I've spent hours now trying to mess with the different snare sounds
and layering, and none of them sound real enough. I want that tangy
after sound produced by a steel snare, but I also want that tough,
loud snare/head, just like a real steel snare drum. What are some of
your snare set-ups? Layers, volumes, tunning, etc. It would be
helpful in me finding the sound that is just right

P.S. Right now I am using Layer one at a volume of 127, a tunning of
0, a reverb of 55, and a decay of -10 (Deep & Dry) and Layer 2 at a
volume of 50 and a tunning of -1 (Bingy*...not sure on the spelling)
and it just doesn't seem to have a full enough sound.

I use
Layer 1: 006 MapleA50 volume 115 tune 0 decay 0 with
Layer 2: 001 Loosy volume 127 tune c=+1 F=-35 decay = +1

I don't know how I ended up with those tuning fugures! These are
DTXpress III numbers.

I don't know if it is what you want, but I like it.

Keith.

My standard snare has a MapleA50 in layer 1 with a shallow cross-
fade to a MapleRim in layer 2. However, I'm not in front of the
module right now so I can't give you parameter values.

Can you post them later? I am also interested in what other drummers do with layering.

Well, after some time I think I found what I like. Layer one
is "Rock" and it has a Tune: 0, F: 0, Decay: 0, FC: -10, and volume:
127. Layer 2 is VtgBras2 and it has a Tune: +1, F: -35, Decay: +15,
FC: 0, and Volume: 115.
