Mixing brands

Mixing brands

2004-05-12 by slushycow

Hi Again,

I was wondering if it's a bad idea to mix different brands. For
example; I found a cool Roland snare here in Japan. It's bigger than
the Yamaha pads and it comes with a stand.

BTW I haven't been able to find it on the net. IS Roland a Japanese
company?

Thanks,

Jon in Japan

Hey Jon: Its Jerry from Miami. I have been reading your posts and just want
to touch bases. I too have a dtxpress one set, and am just getting used to
it. What are you doing in Japan? I assume you play with a group. What kind of
music? Would you mind if I emailed you with questions regarding the kit from
time to time? I really enjoy your posts for they are very helpful. Regards,
 Jerry

Hi Jon,

Mixing brands is a wonderful idea--when it works, and it usually
does. But Yamaha modules are the toughest match in captivity for
alternative-brand components. Roland pads are generally okay with the
Yamaha module, but trying before buying is recommended, unless people
at this forum, or others, can endorse the product in question. I
assume that your Roland is a mesh head. Most likely you can find a
pad type in the trigger menu for it (maybe DT10/20).

Hi Jerry,

Thanks a lot for the compliment. I'd be more than happy if you want
to talk directly via email.

My regular mail is hixhix@...

I joined a group in Japan about a year ago called "The TenGooz". We
play blues, rock, reggae and lots of other stuff.

If you are interested, have a webpage www.tengooz.com

I think there is some live music on that site, but the recordings
were straight off the board, so the volumes are all messed up.

Look forward to hearing from you.
