DTXpress III review in Rhythm magazine

Subject says it all really - there's a review of the basic DTXpress III in
the latest issue (June 2004) of Rhythm magazine.

Paul,

Can you condense it?

Really Inspector, do you seriously expect me to believe that on 11/5/04 8:14

Rating 3 out of 5 stars.

The reviewer liked:

the pads "pleasingly playable"
the module (ease of use)
the rack "sturdy and lightweight"
the new cymbal sounds, the rides in particular

The reviewer wasn't that impressed with:

the basic drum sounds "fairly one dimensional"

Summed it up as good value as a practice/rehearsal tool

Thanks, Paul. Dissenting opinions?

Sadly, I have to agree that out of the box (ie using the preset
kits) the DTXpress in all its incarnations does sound a bit flat.
It's only when one has delved deeply into the menus and learnt the
subtle art of layering that things can really come alive and sound
more dynamic.

Maybe Yamaha should ask some of us to come up with the presets for
the DTXpress IV. :-)

Hey Cris: Having fooled around with the settings for hours and hours, I
would love some favorite settings from the gang in the forum. I think it would
be great to compare others to what I have come up with. Much thanks, Jerry

Chris,

Could elaborate for me a little on layering, please? I feel I'm not
using my kit to the fullest. I always play the same setting. Mostly
jazz preset modified with maple toms. DTX I

Thanks,

I agree, Chris! Also, I think the owner's manual is a
little "flat"- not really emphasising the options and versatilities
of these modules/kits. Yamaha doesn't seem to want to challenge our
creativity in creating sounds, yet the potential IS there. It's
probably more my inexperience, but it seems a little non-user
friendly.
