New DTX Special

New DTX Special

2004-05-12 by Creighton Higgins

The UPS guy showed up a day late- typo on the address label- and I did
not have a lot of time to play them. Here are some 1st impressions
(remembering that I am coming from a 1st generation DTX):
1. The new rack is good- lays the pads out more like a big drum set
and it is very rigid. The channels really grab the clamps.
2. The module mount looks better than the computer on a stick
arrangement from the last version.
3. The pre-formed wiring harness is way good. The labeled cables are
excellent.
4. The new round cymbals are great- they feel good and trigger
flawlessly out of the box. The PCY-150 is unexpectedly good- the bell
triggers like a real bell- the bow feels good- and the rim only
triggers when you hit it. The cymbals seem to be of robust
construction and they swing nicely without rotating due to a cast
metal keeper that attaches to the cymbal mount.
5. The new hihat cymbal works really well. So far I would like a bit
more control over the in-between range and I need to press down hard
to get a fully closed sound- but there is no tweaking done yet. This
confirmsmy impression (negative) of the HH60
6. It seems like the new cymbal sounds are a real step up! Not much
time to play with them yet.
7. Have you guys with version 2 units had the little bar graph that
shows what you hit and how hard you hit it? It's new to me. It is not
all that informative. I like it.

What a good toy

Yeah ... really useful for tracking down crosstalk (an OGD tip).

I find using the trigger edit more useful for finding crosstalk - it
switches to the last thing it thinks you hit so if you hit the snare &
it shows you the hi-hat you know you have crosstalk. Also, you are in
the right place to adjust it as well.

Keith.
