Want to get your butt kicked for cheap? :)

Want to get your butt kicked for cheap? :)

I get a "surplus" catalog from a company called "All Electronics"
(http://www.allelectronics.com) periodicly, and the most recent one had
some parts (cheap) that when combined should allow you to create
something like this:

For those of you not familiar with these things, a butt kicker is like a
subwoofer except it uses whatever you attach it to as the "cone". In
effect, making the item it is attached to "shake" with the bass like the
cone of a subwoofer. A neat concept as it allows you to "feel"
gut-rumbling bass w/o having possibly ear-damaging Db levels. So, rather
than dropping between $500.00 and $250.00 USD for a "commercial" one, you
could use a combination of this:

described here:
------------------------ CLIP -----------------------
SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER
New subwoofer amplifier. Speaker-level inputs via gold-plated 5-way
binding posts. Variable low-pass filter, 80-220 Hz. Volume control.
On/off switch. Fused. Operates on 120 Vac, 200 W. No official specs
available. The power transistors inside are designed for 60W audio
applications, so this may be the output of the unit. Works well with Bass
Shakers (CAT # AST-1B) as well as woofers. Output leads for speaker
(direct pass through) as well as woofer. Enclosed in a sealed housing for
easy installation. Enclosure cut-out, 7" x 7.75". Depth, 3.18". CAT#
SWA-6

Your Price: $24.00 each

and this

described here:
------------------------ CLIP -----------------------
BASS SHAKER -- VIBRATION TRANSDUCER
Aura # AST-1B-4. Feel the sound! Ideal for home theater and car audio.
Bass Shakers, when properly installed in seats or under wood floors,
cause the chairs or floors to resonate to make you "feel" the explosive
sounds in movie soundtracks or video games. Transmits frequencies under
100 Hz. This effect is achieved without excessively high bass volume. 4
ohm impedance. Rated 25 Watts RMS continuous. 50 Watt max. 4.75" diameter
x 2.35" high. 2.5 lbs each (5 lbs per pair). Installs easily with 4
screws. Connects like a speaker. Sold in pairs. CAT# AST-1B

Your Price: $35.00 per pair
------------------------ CLIP -----------------------

To make the same thing for around $75.00 USD. :) Since you would have two
of the bass-shaker modules, you could even make a throne for the Bass
player to try and keep him "with you" when he rushes or drags... ;)

It was pointed out to me that the bass shakers are available from Parts
Express ( http://www.partsexpress.com ) for even less! :)

They have them for $29.80. They also have quite a few different sub
woofer amps in varying power levels:

Lots of options! :)
