This all sounds accurate.  That's what happened to my DW8000 when its battery died.  
Here's a website with info on how to replace the battery in a Poly 800 II, which I'd imagine 
is very similar to a Poly 61.  Check it out here:

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
