Need some help with Angel City Mod

Need some help with Angel City Mod

2004-08-19 by hulkhoganpower

Ok, so I just bought this dw-8000 with an angel city mod off
ebay...untested. It shows up and I plug it in, and it turns on, but
theres no sound, and some digits on the lcd lood scrambled but the
lights work perfect on other parameters/sounds, so being the
electronics junkie I am I take the thing apart. Well the purple wire
for the angel city mod was hooked into a contact on a chip, but it
accidentally got unhooked as I was opening the board, so I'm in bad
shape...I find a few places on the main board that will make the
board start up, but none of them still have any sound. So I take
apart one of my other 2 8000's. I put the mod in there, turn it on,
no sound so I put back in the factory (cpu,or os chip), whatever it
is...and turn it on, and I lost all my sounds. So a week later when
I figured out how tape backups work, and just copied my only good
8000 to the other one with the bad sounds, I figure I'd start
looking for that OS/CPU chip that I need, or see if anyone knows how
to fix this angel city mod. So really I need the parts, because I
stupidly arranged to sell one before I knew that this one didn't
work, and I need one for stage and one for home...and also I noticed
the large quantity of sounds popping up on here, and thought that I
could still just boot up the modded keyboard and upload the angel
city mod soundbanks (all 8) to the files area if wanted...But really
I need that chip...so if someone has a board for parts, or knows
where I can get that part please let me know, because I am in dire
need of it.

OK, regarding the Turbo mod:

--the hardware portion of the mod is pretty easy... replace the
existing dw8000 rom with the turbo board, and clip the cheesy little
test lead to IC 31, pin 2 or 5 (doesn't matter which).
Make sure you've got the turbo board oriented correctly, and be sure
you're connecting to the right pin.

--the software is a bit more complicated ... it's possible to have a
fully functioning turbo board installed that won't make any sounds, if
it's not programmed correctly (the first dw8000 I bought was sold as
"nonfunctioning" -- turns out it had a turbo board installed, and the
patches weren't properly reprogrammed. Changed a few parameters, and
everything worked fine).

As for parts: what exactly are you looking for? If you need the
turbo eprom, you might just be better off ordering a new board from
Mustronics in europe (they still sell them for about $65 plus shipping).

Have you read the turbo programming manual? it's in the files section.
