No. Glossy papers will always have a higher measured dmax due to the difference in how they reflect light. It's all about reflections and the type of lighting you have. The Eboni/Carbon-6 approach has a very good dmax for a matte paper. In normal lighting, the reflections will often if not usually make a matte dmax look darker than the supposedly higher glossy dmax. In perfect cross lighting with no light reflecting off the print, the glossy will have a higher dmax. I use glossy for my brochures because people take them into the sunlight out doors. There the glossy damx can really pay off. On the wall in my home, even with the primary lighting being from 2 spot lights, the matte paper wins. > In your eobony-6.pdf file you write: "For 2010, Iâm > using 4 of the Eboni-6 > inks, an HP PK, and MIS LK" what is the reason behind? In the 1400 I use Hp PK to print my gallery brochures. The 1.5 picoliter droplets do a good jog "black only." In the 7500 they'd look bad by themselves. Also, this year I have a large "sepia tone" project. I'm using 3 levels of MIS glossy carbon in my 7800 to print this show. The 1400 was set up with the MIS LK to demonstrate the sepia tone that MIS LK can achieve. I'm pulling the MIS LK from the 1400 soon and going back to 5 Eboni positions there -- the "Eboni-1400" I have linked to the main BW-Info page. At the High Sierra, high elevation, dry photo workshohp, not surprising, the MIS LK was the one channel that was not perfect when I started the printer there. I'm pulling the ink before it causes more trouble. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
