The uncoated Arches tests currently at Aardenberg are mine. ... they have not done as well as the same inks on some of the coated papers, though well. That is consistent with my tests (with a blended B&W inkset, not 100% carbon). However, the fade testing is not going to show what the long term staying power is of the coatings with respect to cracking and separation. We have no good accelerated age testing information. My belief is that Wilhelm's tests are at a constant temperature and humidity, thus not subjecting the paper to the termperature and humidity swings that probably present the most serious risk. So with respect to how the paper itself will hold up we're stuck more with the historical experience, and we just do not have that data with respect to the coated inkjet papers. Arches, on the other hand, has stood the test of time. So, I read the original question(perhaps incorrectily) as including paper longevity as well as ink longevity, and I suspect the carbon will last long enough that the substrate itself may be a limiting factor. Of course, don't get me wrong, I use mostly coated paper. Moreover, I think the new coated Epson Hot Press Natural looks great with the carbon inks (and I see it's now also available in rolls). I'm hopeful the coated papers will last, but I think there is more uncertainty than with an uncoated paper like Arches. Paul www.PaulRoark.com >
