Hi Paul, As i am mostly doing proofing (in color and BW) with this printer with Epson Archival Matte papers i can live with the MK cart only, so it is a life saver to know that i can use the other cartridges as you described. I use a small piece of tape across the top of the chip to hold it in place. Never insert a cart with no chip or you're liable to wreck the printer.
