Yes, I have started using BD-RE disks. The typical disk holds a little under 25GB. I have an LG 10x recorder and was quite surprised at how fast it created a disk using the Cyberlink software 

I haven't investigated longevity. I have multiple copies on hard drives on or attached to two systems and use DVD or Blu-ray for my offsite copies.
