The problem with QTR, at least in its Windows incarnation and the smaller printers, is that it is much less tolerant of blocked and misfiring nozzles than the Epson driver is, and that is possibly the cause of the banding. If you watch the print being laid down on the paper on for example the R2400 you'll see the ink is being laid down in a much narrower band as the paper passes through using QTR than it is with the Epson driver.
