Here' a quote from Phil Askey's dpreview review of the D1...the D1x was built on the same body... "Many parts of the D1 bear more than a passing resemblance to other members of the Nikon SLR family such as the F5 and F100. Indeed when I was first introduced to the D1 I was told that its design was half F5 and half F100 (it's difficult to see which halves, but sufficient to say strength wise it's closer to the F5)." End of Askey quote...beginning of my comments. First of all there is nothing in the manual about what body the D1x is. Nikon has not made an "official" statement about that. You don't even need a ruler to see that a D1x (to my right) is not the same as a D100 (to my left). Just a few examples of differences include the D1x's prism chamber (which is identical to a F5...(3" on D1x, 2.5# on the D100) with the diopter adjustment knob moved around to the back on the D100. Top face buttons on the D1x are like the F5, not the D100. The angle of the trigger face is different between the two cameras. There are numerous other differences and many similarities (like there are between the F5 and the D100, but I would definitely side with Askey in his quote above. I purchased the cameras that I'm describing: D1--spring of 2000 D1x--fall of 2001 D100--summer of 2001 Sold my F5 when I bought the D100...so I don't have one in front of me Robert On 2/27/02 4:36 AM, "Pics4U@..." <Pics4U@...> wrote: >>> I've always said that Nikon SHOULD have made the D1X on the F5 frame >> >> They did make the D1x on the F5 frame...at least mine is...minus the >> mirror lockup...it sure as heck isn't my D100. >> >> Robert > > Unless your's is somehow different than the one in my camera case, > I think you are mistaken.
