The MIS UT-FS inksets (medium warm or neutral) are monotone carbon + color (blended in to neutralize the carbon warmth) B&W inksets for a variety of printers.

Today I'd go one step further and put those curves into an ICC using QTR's Create ICC-RGB.  See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Embedding_Photoshop_Curves_in_ICCs.pdf  For now, however, just try to find a curve for a paper that is close to what you're interested in and see you it works.
