For a do-everything printer that does not require refilling carts it's hard to beat the OEMs K3 printers (like your old 2400). It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing more about needs in terms of print style and image permanence. On this forum many of us accept the hassle of at least filling carts as a worthwhile compromise that brings us lots of options and lower prices.

The latest "least maintenance" machine I set up for my college kid is a WorkForce 30 with B&W dyes. So far the dyes have not clogged at all in any machine I've used them in. With the "EZ" (what I now call "K2-Quad") approach one only needs 2 bottles of inks -- K and LK. But, it does require user mixing. (See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/WF30-BW-Dye.pdf and http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/1100-Dye.pdf) I use the WF 1100 for my default home office printer. I was just told off line that they can be purchased for as little as $99 now.
