Could it be worse, OS-X Colorsync assigning an untagged target image with the current monitor profile? It has that policy in Safari if I recall it correctly, where any sane application/browser uses sRGB as the colorspace to assign if an image has no tag. If so the results could differ between users. Many will have Gamma 2.2 as the base for monitor calibration-profiling.
