Digital BW, The Print

I've been following this list for some time and sometimes I think that my 
confusion gets worse.  So let me state my objective and just ask for help on 
system recommendations.

I want to dedicate a printer to B&W printing only.  I want to be able to 
print up to 11X14.  I care tremendously about archival print quality.  I'm 
thinking that a continuous ink supply system is the way to go but I'd even be 
happy to be educated about problems, if any, with that.  My total budget is 
up to $1500 (although I'm not opposed to purchasing something below $1000).

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding which printer and which 
inks/pigments meet my needs.
