RE: [Digital BW] Epson 1430 Non-OEM Cartridge Issues - Resolution

2013-01-24 by Tom Maugham

V6.0 is the version number of the chip. It's my understanding that 6.0 is
the latest version. As I said it works in my 1430 which I just received and
installed on Tuesday. Mine is a refurb from Epson directly so I would
presume that it has the latest version of the printer software.

Does anyone know how to determine what level of the software is? Perhaps
that would help.

Another interesting fact is that when I look at the cartridge info in Status
Monitor it reports the carts as being genuine Epson. Go figure..

I have v6.0 on the cartridges that don't work in the 1430 and I've spoken
with another person using v6.0 in a 1430 successfully. I'm not sure what the
v6.0 means or if it is a factor.

I purchased my cartridges in 2010 and 2011. The 1430 came out about a year
ago and that is when the change occurred. If you purchased your carts within
the last year I would expect them to have the new chips. It's possible that
my most recently purchased cartridges would work in the 1430, but I've only
been trying the ones filled with color ink and they are the oldest ones.

I'll test using a mix of Epson and MIS cartridges and let you know how it
goes. Before I do, if anyone has real information on why this should not be
done (MIS says not to do it), please speak up!
