I keep them all full all of the time.  That is better than a risk of 
air, etc. to the heads.

Once a cart reads 10% (one of mine won't reset until 9%), I take it out 
and put it back.  It's reset.

There has always been a logical stopping point between prints between 
10% and zero to pull and replace.
