Epson 1430 with MIS cartridge - easy way to reset empty status?

Epson 1430 with MIS cartridge - easy way to reset empty status?

2013-02-25 by John

MIS says that the auto-reset on the cartridges will only work when the
printer thinks the the cartridge is almost empty, etc...

It seem like one cartridge will go empty, so I refill it and it will
reset. But if another cartridge is getting low, I can't refill it
until the printer decides it is almost empty.

Is there any way to refill all the cartridges at once once one of them
goes empty? Is there a MIS cartridge resetter available that anyone
knows about?

Thanks!

I keep them all full all of the time. That is better than a risk of
air, etc. to the heads.

Once a cart reads 10% (one of mine won't reset until 9%), I take it out
and put it back. It's reset.

There has always been a logical stopping point between prints between
10% and zero to pull and replace.

How do you see 10%? The Epson driver shows a graphic with not much
ink, but no number that indicates 10% vs more/less.

Note that the Epson driver (in my r2400) has a setting to show/not show an "Ink Low" message. If this is not checked, the printer will print, using OEM carts, until the carts are empty. Posters who discuss the issue of low levels and ink low messages, need to indicate whether the "Ink Low" message setting is checked or not.

All this talk about the difficulty of refilling cartridges and resetting chips just convinces me more of the advantages in utilizing some CIS system, which I have done for years with no cartridge refilling and chip resetting problems. I (along with Paul) ignore Epson's graphical depiction of ink levels. The "above-ground" CIS ink reservoirs clearly reveal when I must add more ink to them. I've recently been toying with the idea of switching to refillable cartridges (why, in heavens, I don't know) but I think now I'll give up the idea.

I would not say I totally ignore the Epson ink monitor. Yesterday, for
example, my 1100 stopped mid-job. It indicated one of the carts "could not
be recognized." I pulled the cart, and it was near empty. So, to filled
all of the carts. The printing job finished without any wasted paper or
evidence that I had to re-fill carts in the middle of the print. That
works well for me.

Funny that following a thread (Can I top of...) and seeing that I'm not alone, comfort me in a way!
I'm still trying to find a simple way to a decent monitoring of the inks but that CIS system (whatever the brand) seems a very good idea.
I looked at some tutorial videos of how to install a CIS system; seems pretty simple but at the same time a bit dangerous.
Still thinking...
