Re: Dead R1800 for 3MK-what next ? 1900 ?

2013-02-26 by Paul

I may be in a similar situation soon. I've had my R1800 for five years, using 3MK cartridges - so far so good. I've been wondering which way to go when and if mine bites the dust. Right after I bought it Paul was perfecting the 1400 and the Eboni 6 approach, so I had a bit of buyers remorse. So if my R1800 goes, this would be the time to make that switch to the 1400/Eboni 6 workflow (now the 1430).

But I have some 3MK prints in a local gallery and the owner asked me how I got such smooth carbon prints! Maybe I got lucky and got a good one. And now I have a chance to buy a very low mileage R1800 for $150, clogfree. I wouldn't have to embark on another learning curve besides which I'm quite happy with the 3MK prints. I should probably look at two prints side by side, the 1430/Eboni6 and the 1800/3MK and then I'd know for sure. And from what I've been reading lately here, I'm not so sure I'd be happy with those auto-reset carts.

I'm sure Paul has a more discerning eye than I do! A previous post called the 3MK prints "gutsy"... interesting description. They do have some punch, that's for sure.

I welcome any comments or advice!

Paul
