Where purchasing the amber base & 1 UT14-C & 1 UT14-M is convient if you want to experiment with different dilution or for different projects. For example, you could mix a LK , LLK, & LLLK inks out of either of the UT14-C or UT14-M to obtain a tritone or quadtone. What I have seen on the UT14 inks & 1400 printer, this really is a bit extreme but doable.
