Choice of flatbed scanner

Hi

I have mastered EB6 and my 1430 printer with the supplied profiles. I would now like to try to make curves/profiles for other paper. 

Regarding the use of a flatbed scanner to read the stepwedge; will any scanner do eg bottom of the line Epson photo scanner? 

Does anyone have a suggestion for a suitable cheap scanner?
