Chennai, IndiaThe subscription model is also a refuge for a company running out of ideas...plumping for annuity income (smaller, steady state cash flow) rather than transactional income (potentially larger, riskier cash flow) is a sure sign of weariness in innovation within a company.Cheers

One advantage of the subscription model that I have not seen mentioned is
one put forward by Thomas Knoll in an interview with Michael Reichman,
namely that the engineers will not have to spend so much time producing
headline-grabbing new features for conventional upgrades, but will be able
to devote more time to improving performance, getting rid of bugs, and doing
things that make the programs easier to use, thus making their subscribers
happier while using the programs. An important point that I welcome.

Well I think you right in some cases and certainly
any company would enjoy the concept of a steady cash flow rather then one with
peaks an valleys.. Their situation is a bit different I think. They've
done well in some areas and not well enough in others. A lot has changed
since they acquired Macromedia. Anyway, they face an uphill battle in the
internet communication business segment.. In some ways they have grown to be a
semi monopoly and that is not viewed well by much of the competition or those
who should be their business partners.. What I'm trying to say is that they are
embroiled in a lot of politics right now and will be for a while.
Anyway as far as new ideas ..LOL...they are on a
new thresh hold in the image segment right now. The concept of imagery and what
it is for us is changing .. Their are so many possibilities still to come for
advancements in making, changing or creating imagery content that that
would be meaningful ...well its awesome..only limited by the imagination..
They have yet to tap the concept fully of smart objects let alone apply it fully
to video , time lapse & focus stacking.
how about content aware fill with user parameters. Man could I make a list..
:-).. They still have a lot of wind in their sail.. They need to resolve some
business and piracy issues and they'll be just fine. They do indeed still have
lots to contribute to us.. and I'm looking forward to it.
