Tom and others, OK, here are my thoughts. I have been awaiting Cones selenium inks for almost a year. Reminds me of Vaporware the software people are constantly announcing. So with that in mind here is my justification for my statements. 1. In the 9 months that I printed with the Piezo ink set my printer built up sludge. The Piezo inks clog many printers and I experienced a very serious clogging problem. Many people using these inks and the 7000 and I did claimed they did not have this problem. Later I found out that they did not print anywhere near the 1500 images that I did within the same 6 month period. Now, almost 8 months later I have read on another list that these people are also having sludge buildup problems. 2. Piezo inks appear to have a green cast. Not everyone sees this, but using a color densitometer measuring the RGB curves, it seems that the Piezo inks do indeed have a green component that breaks away and down from the red and blue H&D curve lines. I don't want green prints. Placing a Piezo print next to a platinum print the tonal range was very similar, but in juxtaposition you can really see the "green tint". 3. I could no longer wait for a neutral inkset that did not clog my printer. Cone promised he would be releasing a newly formulated ink that would not clog and would be neutral. I had hoped it would be released earlier this year. Never came on the market. 4. I wanted a flexible printing system that I could have papers profiled for without depending on the manufacturer to release his proprietary ICQ profiles as and when "He" wanted to. 5. Enter Colorbyte Software. I purchased the ImagePrint 4 RIP. The first version I received would up with a bug or two, but the developer sent me a newer version that fixed the problem I was having. I am using this RIP with the MIS FS inks. The densities of the MIS FS inks are for all intents and purposes identical to Piezo inks. I have been running the MIS FS inks for the better part of 6 months. My heads, dampers and waste ink station look as clean as the day they were replaced. The MIS FS inks have not clogged my machine. I have had to do the ocassional cleaning cycle, but that is it. This is a big advantage for me. Sometimes I print all weekend and then do not print for days. PART 2 to follow Enter the MIS FS Neutral Inks.
