Ted,

The next generation of Epsons is supposed to come out in the US in the Fall
of this year. So for color it depends if you can hold out that long.

If you want to do B&W with the current aftermarket grayscale inks, the issue
is that the aftermarket suppliers lag Epson by many months or over a year
due to the difficulty of cloning the ink cartridge chips that Epson is
using. So even if the new Epson's arrive on schedule next fall it would be
many months before there is a way to use them with the MIS or Piezo inks.

Epson is supposed to have a B&W solution along with the new printers so that
may not be important. If you are interested in dedicating a printer to B&W I
would pick up a 1280 before they are no longer in production.
