The short answer is that Epson reformulated it's inks for the 12xx printers. They are now manufactured in China, not Japan. Before the reformulation, I used to get wonderfully neutral b&w prints on my 1270. The same files printed later with newer carts came out absolutely purple. Epson, of course, denies any change in the formula and is basically ignoring the whole issue. i.e. they refuse to provide updated profiles for these new inks. I now have a 1280 w/ MIS VM inks dedicated to b&w printing, so it's not an issue with me, but the reformulation was quite upsetting before I got this set-up. If you do any large amount of b&w printing, I highly suggest this set-up. Good luck, Daniel P\ufffdrez -Dallas so, there is nothing wrong w/ your 1270, just the inks. > B&W prints in Photoshop 5.0(grayscale)printed on > my refurbished Epson > 1270 have a purple-magenta cast.
