water or alcohol when cleaning rollers?

My 1400 was acting up today: the paper shot right through without printing. I tried my old trick, cleaning the large thick input roller with a QTrip and distilled water but that didn't work. I finally ended up cleaning the roller using the QTrip with alcohol and then all was fine.

I was reluctant to use alcohol because I'd heard that was not good for the rubber. Any truth to that?

Another factor may have been the paper. I normally use PremierArt Fine Art 205 in 8 1/2 x 11, but this time I was using Red River Aurora in 4x6.
