Success.
It took about 5 minutes to remove the four small plates holding the star wheels (less time than it took with my old 1400).
The 4800 prints fine, and now with no pizza wheel marks.
I'm no engineer, but I have to wonder why the Epson team thought these pizza wheels necessary in the first place.
