I have experience using a ChannelBind machine from http://channelbind.com/ They sell reasonably nice cover stock that has a metal channel built into the spine. You insert your pages and the machine squeezes the metal channel in the spine securing the pages. It is best with more supple types of paper. I did a few hundred art books this way. My favorite paper for this was called zeppelin but I don’t recall the vendor. Let me know if you would like any more details.
