Digital BW, The Print

I hope I don't sound stupid but being new to this group I am not 
quite sure what you are talking about when you speak of Transfer 
Functions and custom curves. How are the formed and used. I have been 
printing with Piezo for about a year without all the problems 
everbody speaks of-with the occasioal clog usually due to the lack of 
printing for a while but am unfamiliar with curves and T.F. I am 
wondering if they can help me with my printing
