Transfer Functions

I hope I don't sound stupid but being new to this group I am not
quite sure what you are talking about when you speak of Transfer
Functions and custom curves. How are the formed and used. I have been
printing with Piezo for about a year without all the problems
everbody speaks of-with the occasioal clog usually due to the lack of
printing for a while but am unfamiliar with curves and T.F. I am
wondering if they can help me with my printing

Vinny,
For the most part, when people in this group speak of curves,
they are talking about a printing system different from Piezo.
Paul Roark developed a system for B&W inkjet printing using the
Epson drivers as opposed to the Piezo driver, and in order to use
this system, a curve must be applied in Photoshop to print the
image. A Transfer Function is the method used to modify this
system to different papers. Because you are only using the
Epson driver, you do not have the variety of paper profiles the
Piezo software provides.
I hope this answers your question.
