Ok, well, we've decided to update our printers.. We've ordered a refurbed EPSON 1270 ($ 279) & a refurbed EPSON 1280 ($389), as well as a Canon S9000. Plans are to use them as follows: EPSON 1270 gets the roll feeder and MIS VM inks... That way I can get rid of the pizza wheels in the 1270, leaving the 1280 alone for borderless B&W glossies... I figure the inherent dot gain from the MIS VM inks on non-glossy media will obliterate any dot patterns that might be visible to the naked eye. EPSON 1280 gets Lyson Small Gamut inks... That allows me to use it for Glossy B&W Prints while retaining the borderless print option. Canon S9000 gets Generations V4 inks (need to check and see whether they will be selling these in Canon cartridges or only bulk), I may consider using a V3 Black for increased archival stability... I should be able to print on most media with the Generations inks in the Canon, without getting the pizzawheel effect. I plan on running cleaning cartridges through both EPSONs before using the new inksets, but wonder if I will need to do so with the Canon as well. The old ALPS 1300 sticks around for 8x10 glossy dye subs.. Even at 5+ years old, the final output is still the best I have seen on rendering skintones. I would appreciate any tips, advice, or disagreement with the above plan... [Keith] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
