I don't know how many inks will be offered, but VM and maybe FS, who knows? You will also be able to charge your own. The problem is resetting the chip, and this may be solved....stay tuned. If you don't mind working with problematic software, MIS will sell you their CFS, you just need to run Windows 98 on an LPT port to printer to reset chip. Even at this the app has many bugs. As I said, stayed tuned re chip resetting... Someone on this list reported that WeInk will sell the read only chip separately, but the website does not report as such, and a phone call to them denied they sold it as well. Still the poster must be assumed to have good info, as a price was quoted. I am going to call them again this morning to see if indeed they WILL sell the Read only chip separately. They have something called a "smart chip" which is just the common resettable chip. yet they don't have cleaning cartridges for this > > printer. How then would I get the color ink out? If your going from Epson ink to VM ink you won't need cleaning carts. Only a few inks that have different PH's need this. For example switching from Lyson pigs to MIS or Piezo pigs you would need this. They DO make cleaning carts for the 1270 ready-made, you just haven't found them yet. JET Jrano does that task, just has a funny name: http://www.mediastreet.com/cgi-bin/tame/mediastreet/inkcart_results.ta m?rlk=1077590 It is possible to fill a virgin cart from MIS with cleaner solution. For example on the Weink site, they sell their own version of BULK cleaner, which you then have to inject into a cart. I think Ultrapurge II part # CL9999( Don't use Ultrapurge III although it says it's for pigment ink- call We-Ink 800-539-3465 and ask them about using ver I vs II vs III). I have never needed to fill a cart this way, but I know that this solution and others in bulk can be used. Is anyone out there > > happily using a 1270 with MIS quads? No, I went with the 1280, knowing that it is a more current model. Jim H.
