I don't think there's anything on the market that is both cheap and
flexible enough to handle a trip's worth of images.

There are numerous $80ish 640x480 cameras out there - fixed focus,
low-res, limited to builtin storage - they're fine for what they are,
but in my opinion really not worth the cash.

Anything that accepts flash storage will run you _minimum_ of $200
plus storage cards - more than I'd want to hand to even the
best-behaved and most-responsible 15-year-old. I think you're better
off giving her a small 35 or APS camera and a bunch of film, and
scanning the best images for her. (Or processing them onto PictureCDs)

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
