Re: [Digital BW] Scanner comparison between Polaroid and canon...

Morning,

Does anyone have any experience with the Fuji 2750 or the 5000, would they
be another brand to consider?

| Hi Bill,
|
| How much are these scanners?
|
| About a thousand each.
|
| I think you know where I'm going with this- to get the detail in the
deepest
| shadow, you really need a drum scanner. I've seen Howtek 4000's on Ebay
in
| the 3-4K range. WAY too much, plus much to much hassle to work with them.
|
| How many scans will you be making that have these deep shadows w/ detail?
| Maybe the most difficult could be sent out for drum scans?
|
| About 40 or so a month
|
| One client refuses to shoot anything but velvia, even though I've told
| him this is not a good choice for scanning. I don't make nearly enough
| money in photography to get a drum scanner. I'm retired, so this is just
| to earn extra money. It has to be between the $1000 canon and the $1195
| Polaroid. Can't afford the Nikon right now, as I'm getting the Canon D60
| next month.
|
| I wouldn't even be getting a new scanner if mine hadn't developed
| terrible noise in the shadows. Today was the first day I've ever seen
| anything like it. like massive blotches and stripes in the shadows. It
| doesn't happen with all slides, just ones that have large areas of
| underexposed shadow detail in them. The canon 2710 FS Did not have this
| problem before, but it costs more to fix it than it's worth.
