Why does my scanner have the option to scan in either 16 or 8 bits then?
What would be the point?

I'm only talking about large tonal adjustments when I say the 16 is
always superior to 8 bit.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
