Digital BW, The Print

I  have prints by Tyler Boley (who Bob correctly identifies as the resident
guru on PressReady) using Piezo inks on a 3000 and by Peter Lindman using VM
inks on a 1280. All the prints are of excellent quality and this is
certainly a good workflow. To my eye the dither of the prints is similar or
identical to the Epson dither.

I want to point out that PressReady supports a limited number of prints and
that the 1280 is not one of them. However, you can use the 1270 driver with
the 1280 and the only lose seems to be access to the 2880 dpi resolution.
Adobe still sells this RIP but it did not do well and they abandoned further
updates or adding new printers.

It does support:

Canon:
BJC-8500

Epson: 800, 850, 870, 900, 1200, 1270, 1520, 3000 and 5000

HP: 895C, 930C, 970C, 1120C, 1220C, 1220C/PS, and 2000C

As I recall from Tyler's and Dan Culbertson's posts they felt PressReady was
the best RIP for CMYK quads without dropping many thousands of dollars on
one of the very high end RIP's. (Please jump in here guys if I have this
wrong.)

Perhaps we can get him and Peter to share more of their experience and some
of their CMYK separation curves with us.
