I think you will have a lot of fun with it.

I have banding problems with it - - worse than Piezo driver
but I (still) have a paper feed problem with my 3000 - - so not a good
example.

Tyler Boley is the quad PressReady expert in the USA
as far as I know. ;-)

I would be happy to copy the manual for you.
Not much to it really.

Let me know if you buy the ebay copy
and I will send you the essential pages.

A couple of notes:
Installs fine to MAC, win98 and win 2000.
Will not easily install to WinNT.

Depending on when the disk was issued
there is a dither upgrade at the Adobe site
which helps a lot.

I use PR daily for color "proofs" and for
simple SWOP matching on 3000 its more than adequate.

Thanks
Bob

The manual was written for very simplistic uses; the advanced info you will
need won't be in it. There should be a PDF copy of the documentation on the
CD anyhow.

Paul,

I have prints by Tyler Boley (who Bob correctly identifies as the resident
guru on PressReady) using Piezo inks on a 3000 and by Peter Lindman using VM
inks on a 1280. All the prints are of excellent quality and this is
certainly a good workflow. To my eye the dither of the prints is similar or
identical to the Epson dither.

I want to point out that PressReady supports a limited number of prints and
that the 1280 is not one of them. However, you can use the 1270 driver with
the 1280 and the only lose seems to be access to the 2880 dpi resolution.
Adobe still sells this RIP but it did not do well and they abandoned further
updates or adding new printers.

It does support:

Canon:
BJC-8500

Epson: 800, 850, 870, 900, 1200, 1270, 1520, 3000 and 5000

HP: 895C, 930C, 970C, 1120C, 1220C, 1220C/PS, and 2000C

As I recall from Tyler's and Dan Culbertson's posts they felt PressReady was
the best RIP for CMYK quads without dropping many thousands of dollars on
one of the very high end RIP's. (Please jump in here guys if I have this
wrong.)

Tyler's workflow is outlined in the Files section in folder:

Files > Image processing

Perhaps we can get him and Peter to share more of their experience and some
of their CMYK separation curves with us.

Bob,

How about you? Which inks are you using with PressReady? What's your
workflow? Any curves you would care to share?

Martin:

I have not used PR seriously except for color proofing
in quite some time. I did use PR for a time with the
Lyson Quads (cool and neutral) a couple of years ago
but did not like the extreme metamerism.

I used the Culbertson methods for a time, but never really dug into
it as Tyler did. Then when Piezo came out I abandoned PR
for quads.

The facinating work of Dan Culbertson is (still) here:
http://campfiredan.net/infoshare/Index_of_infoshare.htm

This is an excellent place to start for CMYK separations.

I have print-outs of most of Dans workflow methods.
All dated 1999. Seems pre-historic.

Thanks
Bob

Bob,

Thanks for the pointer to Dan's site I should have thought of that myself.
For anyone who has not rummaged around in Dan's info pages there is a wealth
of technical stuff on working with quads.

Yeah, 1999 was a couple of centuries back in the world of digital printing!
