Digital BW, The Print

Hi Paul, 

No, it doesn't print a clean purge pattern.

Around the 75 percent black position, the pattern looks mottled, or
speckly, sort of like the texture you'd get by dragging a drybrush
loaded with black lightly over the 75 percent black strip.  I just
printed an entire sheet of 13x19 paper using 75 percent black for the
whole sheet.  In places, it still bands, and has that mottle effect. 
When printing a gradient from black to white, if you stand back about 6
feet, all you can see is black, middle gray and very light gray/white.
Only 3 different colors. there's a fairly sharp delineation between the
3 tones, and from 6 feet, it almost looks like a sharp line. Something
is very wrong with this printer. (Printing from RGB with your cool curve.)

I think I'll get another 1280 and get a profile for it on Eclipse satine
paper using epson inks. 

Even the black patch isn't all that black from my 1160 now. It sat
unused for over 9 months, so I suppose that's what did it in.
