Re: [Digital BW] Anybody using the Nikon D100 yet?

2002-07-29 by Robert Morrison

Contax new 35mm digital is full frame...just played with one the other
day...feels kind of plastic...not nearly as solid as my D1x. Their medium
format digital is like a load of bricks in comparison...you'd need to weight
train to use this camera hand held.

Everybody I know uses the Sigma 14mm/f2,8...that only gets you to "21mm"
though. I like this lens on my D1x...but it is huge in comparison to my old
nikon 20mm/f2,8. I think nikon has a 7mm fish eye...that will run you about
$4K used...but its a fisheye. I don't believe that anyone makes a full
frame under 14mm for 35mm SLR's. This is one major problem for pro digital
rigs...but I imagine that in the next round of pro cameras (maybe not the
prosumers like the D60 and D100 though...that would be an obvious
distinction for Nikon and Canon to make). I'd imagine that we will have a
major Nikon announcement in the fall...but maybe not shipping until spring.
