The channel mixer lets you compose your b&w image from any mix of red,
green, and blue channels -- like going back and reshooting in b&w with
different filters. With layers and masks, you can even use different
"filters" in different parts of the image. (But I use Photoshop, so I
don't know which features are present in Elements.)
