Thom, I haven't had time to pursue this much yet, but early indications
are that this banding has to do with the paper you use. The banding is
most definitely noticible on the Photo matte paper, but it is NOT on
Aspen paper. If I use the Aspen, all is well, with no banding. I can't
imagine why this would be, but so far it is. It will take a lot more
tests to absolutely confirm this, using many different papers.

Unfortunately, Aspen is not archival, nor acid free, I'm afraid. 

What paper are you using, and what inks? DPI?, etc?
