Not at all. I'm saying the can do it today (yesterday). I'm saying
that in order to
do this and not charge thousands of dollars for a printer that works
just like a
2200 but prints only with black ink, Epson has to sell A LOT OF THEM,
and
unless lots of people make it clear they would buy such a unit,
you'll likely not
see such a printer. IOW, it has nothing to do with technology. It has
to do with
bringing a vertical market printer to market.

In order for Epson to produce this ink set and fill it's ink
cartridges, they have
to make a heck of a lot to make it worth their while. This is why
very small
supplies like Cone and Lyson are where they are today. They are a
niche
market. Epson isn't a niche market supplier.

Epson isn't in the printer business. It's in the ink and paper
business. I think
we all realize that. The chip is annoying but it's there for the same
reason you
have serial numbers or dongles for software.
