--- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., "antonisphoto" <antonisphoto@y...> > you are making it sound like they have to invent the wheel all over again. Not at all. I'm saying the can do it today (yesterday). I'm saying that in order to do this and not charge thousands of dollars for a printer that works just like a 2200 but prints only with black ink, Epson has to sell A LOT OF THEM, and unless lots of people make it clear they would buy such a unit, you'll likely not see such a printer. IOW, it has nothing to do with technology. It has to do with bringing a vertical market printer to market. In order for Epson to produce this ink set and fill it's ink cartridges, they have to make a heck of a lot to make it worth their while. This is why very small supplies like Cone and Lyson are where they are today. They are a niche market. Epson isn't a niche market supplier. > Imagine what they can do with that: they can get a nice jump on the market > with 7 gray inks and a way to mix cool-to-warm. It's in the ink and paper business. I think we all realize that. The chip is annoying but it's there for the same reason you have serial numbers or dongles for software.
