Digital BW, The Print

Andrew - or anyone else with a knowledgeable opinion,
 
Dumb (hope not) newbie question here:
 
I'm pretty sure that I've seen grey-tone inks available for Epson
printers.  Wouldn't using these inks prevent at least some of the
problems that you have been discussing in both this thread and the one
that concerns metamerism?  While I appreciate that one would want the
capability of printing both color and B&W, if one's main reason for
having the printer were for B&W use, why not use grey-tone inks and not
be concerned with color shifts?
