I believe that USB standard limits cord length to 6 ft in length (that's probably where Epson gets their figure from...its like scsi cords...that were supposed to be kept to 6ft lengths)...of course that doesn't mean that you won't find non-standard cords...like you apparently already have. I use a 6ft cord that then goes to a hub with 4 different 6 ft cords going to printers and that's ok...but its not a continuous cord...just like we would chain scsi devices. I know that one advantage of firewire over USB is the longer possible (15 ft) cord length. I'd suggest using a hub and trying to move your equipment a little closer or maybe look into USB to ethernet adapters...but I don't have any experience using these with printers. I do use a parallel to ethernet print server for my 7000 which is a considerable distance from my workstation...but these are expensive and I'm not sure how you would use one with the conventional epson driver (I've hear of someone doing it with a PC...but not sure about a mac), I use that machine with a 3rd party RIP that supports ethernet.
