I think the 2200 series might be an ideal platform for a pigmented small
gamut inkset. It'll be interesting to see if Epson goes that route. I'll
ask MIS if they are interested in pursuing such an approach.
I'm no expert on color, but I would think such a system might work with
existing profiling software also. I assume the chips will be busted if they
aren't already.
I think the UltraChrome inkset could (already has) really set the standard
for quality. However, the 3rd party inksets will probably be able to come
close enough to be competitive on the quality and be much cheaper on price.

It would be great if this rumor was true. Then us black and white
photographers could forget about spending $495 for the unproven Imageprint
solution to producing neutral and metamerism-free prints on the 2200.
Or having to resort to separate dedicated black/white and color printers.
However, is there really a big enough market for Epson to develop this ?

hope so, as I don't think these printers can produce acceptable out of the
box
exhibition B/W prints.
